Controller
Position Overview
Filion Capital is seeking a highly detailed and technically proficient Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions for the firm's management company and its investment funds. This role is critical for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial records and reports. The Controller will manage the accounting cycle, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and support the CFO in all aspects of financial operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for a rigorous accountant who excels in a fast-paced, complex environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations for the Filion Capital management company, including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
- Manage the fund accounting function, including the calculation of management fees, carried interest allocations, and partner capital statements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements in accordance with US GAAP for the management company and various investment entities.
- Lead the annual audit process, serving as the primary point of contact for external auditors and ensuring a smooth and efficient review.
- Develop and enforce internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial compliance.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reporting packages for Limited Partners (LPs), investors, and the firm's leadership.
- Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury functions for the management company.
- Stay current on technical accounting pronouncements and ensure the firm's compliance with all relevant standards.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification is required.
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a significant portion gained within the financial services industry, preferably in private equity or hedge funds.
- Deep, hands-on experience with fund accounting, including the calculation of NAV, management fees, and carried interest/waterfall allocations.
- Expert technical knowledge of US GAAP and experience with the financial reporting requirements for investment advisors.
- Proven experience managing the annual audit process with a Big 4 or large national accounting firm.
- High proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Ability to thrive in a lean, entrepreneurial environment and manage multiple priorities.
